The β-galactosidase, which is present in many types of vectors, degrades X-gal to produce a blue product when active. Using this property, you can see whether the insert DNA has been introduced through blue / white selection. In other words, if there is no insert DNA in the vector DNA, b-galactosidase induced by IPTG acts and blue colony appears. If there is an insert DNA, the gene site of b-galactosidase is cleaved and white colony is formed.  The a-complementation Kit is made available in solution form for immediate use of X-gal and IPTG.
